Soil tests include those generally associated with the classification of material properties dispersion characteristics, subgrade strength characteristics, and relevant field and laboratory test involved in compaction control and certification of natural and fill materials.

The laboratory is accredited with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) in the field of Construction Materials Testing with testing being performed to either relevant Australian Standards or the test methods of Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) of New South Wales.

Laboratory Testing

Tests performed include:

  • engineering classifications
  • pavement material evaluation
  • CBR (California Bearing Ratio) testing
  • aggregate testing
  • unconfined rock strength
  • shear box

Field Testing

A wide range of field testing equipment is available and includes:

  • in-situ resistivity
  • falling weight penetrometers
  • field density
  • benkleman beam deflection testing

SMEC Testing Services complies with the requirements under ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and has NATA accreditation for a wide range of tests. Follow this link for a full list of accredited test methods.
